Paul Cashin Architects Starts Work on a Cottage Refurbishment and Extension in Sidlesham, West Sussex
PCA has begun work on the contemporary remodelling and refurbishment of a Victorian cottage on the south coast of West Sussex, near Pagham harbour on the Manhood Peninsula. The property, named Island Cottage for its slight remote setting, occupies the end of the Mill Lane road in Sidlesham, and has views east and south over the Pagham Harbour area.
The property has been extended over the last fifty years in a haphazard fashion, and so the brief for the project is to consolidate the house by remodelling the interior spaces whilst creating cohesion between the building, garden, and landscape beyond.
We propose to renovate each of the rooms with a palette of locally found materials, such as flint, timber boarding, and brick work. The design will also feature a rear development which includes timber cladding, sliding panel observation windows, and a roof terrace. The garden will feature wild planting of native species and a rolling landscape bung to aid the flood defences required for the area.
Planning will be submitted in September and construction work is scheduled for next Spring.
