Paul Cashin Architects - Steam Town Brew Co, Eastleigh, Hampshire, Demolition Underway
Demolition is underway at Steam Town Tap Room, a conversion project in Eastleigh, Hampshire.
The existing cafe on the corner of Bishopstoke Road and Dutton Lane is being converted into a brewery and tap room. Flooring, old WCs, and a mezzanine floor are some of the aspects of the building which have already been demolished, freeing up space for the new proposed scheme.
Working alongside a structural engineer on site, Paul Cashin Architects were able to learn more about the structure of the building, which is not fully documented in original drawings. This is an ongoing process, as demolition continues. Recently, we were surprised to find some brick work which had previously been concealed, and now will feature in the new design.
We are continuing to work with the clients to produce internal refurbishment details which will focus on the brewing process of craft/local beers. The interior spaces will make references to the history of industry in Eastleigh, a railway town with an industrious past which includes the Spitfire aircraft and train sidings. We propose to create furniture and fixtures from up-cycled materials once used in the industries linked to the town.
